A new project occurring with stringent requirements: In order to machine support frames for a 4-cylinder diesel engine, the Schweizer Group required a concept that combined flexibility and high precision for large quantities.
In cooperation with Licon, a production line was realized which comprises of two four-axis twin-spindle machining centers and one fine-boring machine. This arrangement allows for the in-line bear-ing bores to be machined with precision. When selecting the machining centers, the Schweizer Group applied its own philosophy. “We attach great importance to keeping the complexity of machines as low as possible. This is why we opted for 4-axis machines, which are simpler to operate than a 5-axis machining center, and then ingeniously combined these.”
